Recipe: Green Juice (Taco Style)

Peace everybody - here's a new green juice I came up with this afternoon. It's definitely one to try if you aren't into the fruits as much & want a vegetable juice that's hearty & flavorful. I served it to 2 family members who don't usually drink green juice & they dug it as well...

14 celery stalks
6 carrots
1 large handful cilantro
1 huge plate of spinach (more is better)
2 cloves garlic
1/2 jalapeño pepper (or more)
3 lemons

Recipe: Turmeric Ginger Tea

Peace everybody - here's another simple recipe. I like to make this tea every night before bed. The ginger and turmeric are both very healing & have anti-inflammatory properties....

Ingredients

1-3 inch piece of fresh ginger root
1-3 inch piece of fresh turmeric root
maple syrup (optional)

Preparation

Cut the ginger & turmeric into small pieces & place in a pot with water.

Bring to a boil & then turn to medium-high heat (7).

Let be for 10-30 minutes - depending on how strong you want it to be.

Add maple syrup or stevia to taste if you wish.

Strain the roots & pour into a tea cup.

ENJOY!

*Try adding other ingredients to suit your tastes/needs. Chamomile flowers are a great addition at night as they allow you to relax & fall sleep. Some people like to add black pepper or cayenne pepper. Cinnamon is good in this tea as well. Get creative!

How to Heal Your Teeth

Peace - I'm on a mission to simplify my life. The goal is to eliminate doctors & dentists completely & be able to thrive on a natural diet with exercise & meditation. I thought I would start sharing some of the stuff I come across as I research ways we can heal ourselves. The first thing I'm learning about is how to heal your own cavities & eliminate the dentist from your life!

If you think about it - drilling a hole into ones tooth (bone) is a pretty barbaric practice that will likely be laughed at in future generations. We are brought up thinking that cavities are just a part of life & when they happen we need to pay someone hundreds of dollars to drill out the decay & cover it up with a synthetic material. I have had my share of dental work in the past, but once I started eating raw foods for healing, I thought maybe I could heal my teeth as well. Fingernails, hair, muscle & bone grows back as the body restores itself, so why are teeth any different? After doing quite a bit of research I now see that they aren't.

Re-mineralization & Brushing

Teeth have to remineralize themselves in order to heal. Our teeth are made up of minerals like calcium, etc. & when our body has suffiecient amounts of these minerals it can begin to heal. Saliva contains many of the important nutrients used to remineralize our teeth so it is important we let it do its job. Many of us already know that fluoride is dangerous & actually causes cavities, but what a lot of us don't know is that toothpaste containing glycerin prevents our teeth from re-mineralizing. I thought I was doing the right thing by switching from commercial toothpaste to neem toothpaste until I saw glycerin in the ingredients. Now I just use aluminum-free baking soda. Based on a lot of research & recommendation by dentists who heal patients holistically, I felt like this was the best choice.

A side benefit of brushing with baking soda is that it will whiten your teeth - A LOT. I quit coffee & started brushing with baking soda less than a month ago & already people are asking what kind of teeth-whitening product I use. Also, contrary to popular belief, you can brush every day with baking soda - it will not ruin the enamel on your teeth. What wears down the enamel on your teeth is the inability to re-mineralize which is caused by lack of essential nutrients (calcium, vitamin D, K, E, & A) & the use of products containing glycerin & similar ingredients.

Also, instead of brushing after every meal try rinsing your teeth with baking soda & water. This eliminates the harmful bacteria that cause cavities & resets the healing environment in your mouth.

Nutrition

Stop eating processed foods altogether. As a general rule, I don't eat anything that has more than one ingredient. Stop consuming caffeine, alcohol, & sugar. Coffee is the last to go for a lot of us, but once you are able to give it up & your energy levels normalize, you will feel much better.

Also consider increasing your intake of calcium, vitamin D, K, E, & A. These nutrients all help with bone growth & bone health. Calcium is abundant in the vegan/vegetarian diet. Kale, broccoli, & almonds are all great sources. Try making a juice with kale, watermelon, & mint leaves (it tastes delicious). Kale is also an excellent source of vitamin K which helps with calcium absorption.

Get your vitamin D from the sun. If you don't live in a climate that allows for daily sun exposure, consider taking a supplement. Vitamin D2 is vegan while vitamin D3 is not. There is a lot of controversy on whether or not D2 is as effective, but I believe it is.

If you eat enough of the right foods, these nutrients will be present in the saliva where they can re-mineralize & heal your teeth.

Stress

"Some people may have a gum problem. Sometimes it's related to stress. You'd be surprised at what can come about from stress. We've had a lot of cases of gum disease that had no plaque at all. We found out that the person wasn't eating enough, wasn't getting enough sleep, & was under a lot of stress. There's a lot of gingivitis among people taking exams in college, & among people getting a divorce," says Joel Knapp, D.D.S. of Hendersonville, TN. Dr. Knapp also teaches nutrition at Volunteer State Community College.

Positive Attitude

What do we have to lose? Dentist visits are expensive & often include exposure to harmful chemicals, radiation from x-rays, drilling, etc. I have had multiple dentists tell me I had several cavities when in fact I had none! I have also had dentists who "fixed" cavities, only to have the fillings come off. I have seen family members messed up so bad by the dentist that they are limited to what they can eat & are in constant pain. This is when I realized there must be a better way.

At the very least, you can stop larger cavities from growing. At the very best you can regenerate your teeth, heal smaller cavities, & prevent new ones. It's hard to de-program ourselves from a lifetime of misleading information, but one day at a time we can learn what it takes to heal ourselves from within rather than treating the symptoms.

Also something to note here - your attitude is very important when it comes to healing. If you are doubtful, you will not have the same success as someone who believes. We are conditioned to think that we need dentists. It's a system based on fear & "fear is the antithesis of healing" (Dan McDonald). Instead of fearing the worst & rushing to the dentist for an expensive "check-up," try loving your body. It wants to heal itself.

Create the right environment from within & your body will heal itself!
