LOVE AND ROCKERS by Ted Bafaloukos and Vice Mag >>>

Theodoros Bafaloukos wrote and directed Rockers, the film that single-handedly made Jamaica and reggae interesting to couch-cozy white folks, their stoner kids, and a bunch of famous English punks with guitars. Today, Ted is not so reclusive as he is remote, spending his time at his childhood home on the secluded Greek island of Andros. Over 30 years after the film's initial release, they made the long journey for this, his first-ever print interview. Thanks VICE FOR THE LINK>>>

“Me and Leroy ‘Horsemouth’ Wallace, the legendary pioneering drummer and star of Rockers, modeling in downtown Kingston, 1977.”

“It was the summer of 1977 and we were shooting Rockers in St. Ann’s, on the north side of Jamaica. The actors and the crew carried supplies and equipment through the hills to shoot a scene in a ganja field.”

“This area, known as ‘Idlers’ Rest,’ was around the corner from Randy’s Record Shop. Musicians, singers, and would-be singers would loaf about listening to the newest 45s spin, waiting to be called in for a session.”

“Pablo again, this time with a ukulele on the abandoned ruins of the elevated West Side Highway in downtown Manhattan, 1975.”

“The late Richard ‘Dirty Harry’ Hall. He was a brilliant tenor saxophonist and co-star of the film. This picture was taken in Horsemouth’s yard off Maxfield Ave. in the heart of Kingston’s ghettos in 1976.”

“By winter, we’d finished filming and I’d moved back to New York. Many of the Rockers cast came to visit. This is Horsemouth on the roof of my Tribeca loft.”

“Pablo and friends, with the World Trade Center in the background.”

“The weed in Kingston was schwag. Horsemouth compensated by smoking large quantities throughout the day.”

“This picture of Augustus Pablo predates the Rockers shoot. In November of 1974, Pablo had come to play his first-ever US shows. This was opening night at the Tropical Cove nightclub in Brooklyn.”

Computer hard drivesare stacked high at an importer's warehouse in Accra, Ghana. The majority of them are not working and will end up being scrapped. Containers arriving in Ghana with computers are often labelled as "second hand goods" so as to bypass international laws, but in reality as much as 80% of the equipment is obsolete and broken.

The Daily Mail has published some cute photos of a group of cheetahs capturing a young impala and then playing with it rather than using it as a delicious meal. Photographer Michel Denis-Huot, who captured these amazing pictures on safari in Kenya's Masai Mara in October last year, said he was astounded by what he saw.
'These three brothers have been living together since they left their mother at about 18 months old,' he said. 'On the morning we saw them, they seemed not to be hungry, walking quickly but stopping sometimes to play together

Sorrel Leaves Are???|||||||||>>>

http://straightfromthefarm.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/sorrel-leaves.jpg

Sorrel is fittingly known as sour grass. Oxalic acid gives the herb its characteristic sour taste. "Oxalic acid can interfere with iron and calcium absorption," warns Tammy Lakatos Shames, RD, CDN, so if you're deficient in iron and calcium, use sorrel in moderation. On the other hand, this pungent plant does have health benefits: "Sorrel is used orally for inflammation of the nasal passages and respiratory tract, and as an adjunct to antibacterial therapy. Some people use sorrel for its diuretic properties," says Shames.

There are several types of sorrel, but the varieties most used are dock and garden or belleville sorrel. At your market, look for sorrel leaves that are about the size of spinach leaves; they taste best. Rinse the sorrel well before use. To prepare, trim tough stems and ribs with a sharp knife to prevent leaves from bruising. Chop or thinly slice, then add to soups, sprinkle over baked or broiled fish or toss in a salad. A little goes a long way, so start with a tablespoon or two in recipes.

China to ban eating dogs, cats>>>

Image...

FIRST ANIMAL ABUSE LAW WILL TAKE DOGS, CATS OFF THE MENU

China plans to end thousands of years of culinary tradition by taking dogs and cat meat off its menu. A law being drafted against animal abuse—China's first—calls for the country's thousands of dog butchers and dog meat restaurants to be closed down. Stiff fines will be imposed on anybody caught eating dog or cat meat, the Times of London reports.

The debate over eating dogs and cats has sparked fierce disagreements between the affluent, pet-owning middle classes and sticklers for traditional values. Dog meat is a traditional winter dish and practitioners of Chinese medicine extol its health benefits. Cat meat is less widely eaten—largely due to a superstition that holds the cat will return by night to seek vengeance—although it remains popular among the famously omnivorous residents of Guangdong province.

Barefoot Running: How Humans Ran Comfortably and Safely Before the Invention of Shoes>>>

http://middlepack.co.uk/wp-content/gallery/posts/feet1960olympics003.jpg
ScienceDaily (Feb. 1, 2010) — New research is casting doubt on the old adage, "All you need to run is a pair of shoes."

Scientists have found that those who run barefoot, or in minimal footwear, tend to avoid "heel-striking," and instead land on the ball of the foot or the middle of the foot. In so doing, these runners use the architecture of the foot and leg and some clever Newtonian physics to avoid hurtful and potentially damaging impacts, equivalent to two to three times body weight, that shod heel-strikers repeatedly experience.

"People who don't wear shoes when they run have an astonishingly different strike," says Daniel E. Lieberman, professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University and co-author of a paper appearing this week in the journal Nature. "By landing on the middle or front of the foot, barefoot runners have almost no impact collision, much less than most shod runners generate when they heel-strike. Most people today think barefoot running is dangerous and hurts, but actually you can run barefoot on the world's hardest surfaces without the slightest discomfort and pain. All you need is a few calluses to avoid roughing up the skin of the foot. Further, it might be less injurious than the way some people run in shoes."

Working with populations of runners in the United States and Kenya, Lieberman and his colleagues at Harvard, the University of Glasgow, and Moi University looked at the running gaits of three groups: those who had always run barefoot, those who had always worn shoes, and those who had converted to barefoot running from shod running. The researchers found a striking pattern.

Most shod runners -- more than 75 percent of Americans -- heel-strike, experiencing a very large and sudden collision force about 1,000 times per mile run. People who run barefoot, however, tend to land with a springy step towards the middle or front of the foot.

"Heel-striking is painful when barefoot or in minimal shoes because it causes a large collisional force each time a foot lands on the ground," says co-author Madhusudhan Venkadesan, a postdoctoral researcher in applied mathematics and human evolutionary biology at Harvard. "Barefoot runners point their toes more at landing, avoiding this collision by decreasing the effective mass of the foot that comes to a sudden stop when you land, and by having a more compliant, or springy, leg."

The differences between shod and unshod running have evolutionary underpinnings. For example, says Lieberman, our early Australopith ancestors had less developed arches in their feet. Homo sapiens, by contrast, has evolved a strong, large arch that we use as a spring when running.

"Our feet were made in part for running," Lieberman says. But as he and his co-authors write in Nature: "Humans have engaged in endurance running for millions of years, but the modern running shoe was not invented until the 1970s. For most of human evolutionary history, runners were either barefoot or wore minimal footwear such as sandals or moccasins with smaller heels and little cushioning."

For modern humans who have grown up wearing shoes, barefoot or minimal shoe running is something to be eased into, warns Lieberman. Modern running shoes are designed to make heel-striking easy and comfortable. The padded heel cushions the force of the impact, making heel-striking less punishing.

"Running barefoot or in minimal shoes is fun but uses different muscles," says Lieberman. "If you've been a heel-striker all your life you have to transition slowly to build strength in your calf and foot muscles."

In the future, he hopes, the kind of work done in this paper can not only investigate barefoot running, but can provide insight into how to better prevent the repetitive stress injuries that afflict a high percentage of runners today.

"Our hope is that an evolutionary medicine approach to running and sports injury can help people run better for longer and feel better while they do it," says Lieberman, who has created a web site, www.barefootrunning.fas.harvard.edu, to educate runners about the respective merits of shod and barefoot running.

The Nature paper arose out of the senior honors theses of two Harvard undergraduates, William A. Werbel '08 and Adam E. Daoud '09, both of whom went to Africa with Lieberman to help collect data for this study.

Lieberman's co-authors on the Nature paper are Venkadesan and Daoud at Harvard; Werbel, now at the University of Michigan; Susan D'Andrea of the Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Providence, R.I.; Irene S. Davis of the University of Delaware; and Robert Ojiambo Mang'Eni and Yannis Pitsiladis of Moi University in Kenya and the University of Glasgow in Scotland.

The research was funded by the American School of Prehistoric Research, the Goelet Fund, Harvard University, and Vibram USA.

Yogi Abhaya’s Amazing Colon Cleaning Program>>>

http://www.mdhb.com/images/bentonite.jpg

This is a really exciting and satisfying cleanse. You get to see results almost immediately! Many people see mucous plaque 'ropes' but maybe you will be lucky and eliminate a penny from 1974 like I have heard has happened to people b4!!

Recipe for B&P's

Put the following ingredients into a glass

1 tbsp liquid Bentonite Clay ('Innovite' brand)
1 tbsp Whole Psyllium Husk (not powdered) I've been using 'Flora' brand, Indian Whole Psyllium Husk.

Then add a bit of cold water, (pure or filtered water) to make a paste. Fill glass up with water, stir. Drink quickly before it turns into oatmeal. Chase with another glass of water.

***

Day 1: Start with one drink in the morning upon waking. Keep a bottle of warm water by your side and drink lots in the morning with or without lemon juice to get your bowels started, naturally.

Day 2 and on: Everyone is different. Some people can jump right in and within a few days be taking 4 B&P drinks a day. Others need to go slowly..starting with one for a few days...see how their bowels move...then add another one last thing before bed. The goal is to get up to between 3 and 5 a day.

Your first Bowel Cleanse using B&P's can be done for up to 6 months for your first bowel cleanse. You can eat normally, but well, during the Bowel Cleanse with Bentonite and Psyllium and get out lots of mucoid plaque. It's best to try to avoid mucoid-forming foods...meats, white bread, sugar, dairy.

The Key: is to drink the B&P drinks on an empty stomach. You must not eat for one hour before taking the drink and one hour after drinking the drink. That is very important. The Bentonite Clay needs to absorb toxins and the Psyllium husks need to scrub out the corners of your intestines all by themselves. Food will inturrupt their work!

One must drink lots of warm water while doing the B&P bowel cleanse - to ensure that you don't get constipated. Remember that warm water stimulates peristalsis (the bowels) and cold water doesn't. Drink at least 2 litres of warm water a day...or half your body weight in ounces per day.

While doing this cleanse it is helpful to imagine that with each elimination you're having you're getting rid of any old outworn, un-needed thoughts, ideas, feelings...

Colon Cleaning Program
The first step towards achieving vibrant health is performing a complete colon cleanse. This Colon Cleansing Program should be done at least once a year. With the correct ingredients and a little effort, you can do this colon cleansing detox system yourself with great results. If you have never performed a cleansing like this before in your life, you will be amazed how it will affect your sense of well being.

The colon is the large intestine. Connected below the smaller intestine, it is the tube through which all solid waste leaves the body. It is said the average American has 5 pounds of undigested waste (usually of animal origin) in their colon. Anyone that has ever eaten meat, aged cheese or other dairy and not done a cleanse (even if you have been a vegetarian for years), will likely have impacted fecal matter on the walls of their colon.

Saturated fats, excess proteins, refined and processed foods, drugs, artificial additives and chemicals all combine to create a nasty substance called mucoid plaque. Because this gunk is of inorganic origin, it sticks to the sides of the colon. Although waste can still pass through, creating the illusion of a clear colon, the space can be actually as thin as a pencil.

Follow this cleansing program carefully, and you will be shocked at what comes out of your system. When you start passing 4 foot long pieces that look like black tire tread shaped like an intestine with a smell of a long dead animal, you'll be convinced it's all worth the effort!

In my experience, to get best results, you must follow a program that uses the bulking agent psyllium and liquid bentonite, plus a technique for purging the waste. The psyllium and bentonite suck this poison off the walls of the intestines and allow it to come loose and be excreted. This is why it comes out shaped like your colon. This putrid matter can also contain worms, larvae, egg sacs, and other nasty things. You'll wonder where it all came from. Even though it sounds distasteful, when you fill toilet after toilet full of black waste you will be very thankful it’s not inside you anymore.

On this cleanse you will also experience emotional clearing. Often we hold traumatic experiences in our poisons. As these poisons are released, so are these old emotions. Many people have had spontaneous emotional releases during the cleanse. Don't be alarmed— this is the goal of the cleanse—to detoxify on all levels.

This program is essential for optimal health. When filth is trapped in your colon, your body’s energy is engaged in neutralizing this poison. When you successfully complete a cleanse, this energy is used to heal other areas that require attention. Your insides will feel like a fresh mountain spring. You'll feel lighter, clear headed and more powerful.

It combines the Master Cleanser system of Stanley Burroughs with the best of other traditional colon cleaning methods. The fast/cleanse is very beneficial if done for even a few days, but to get the full benefit a seven day program is recommended. Some people do a version of this cleansing process for two weeks, a month and even longer.

For more information on how to keep healthy after doing a total colon cleanse please see this informatives articles Colon Health Main Page - Easting For Healthy Colon - Colon & Bowel Ailments and Keep the Colon Healthy articles.

I cannot overemphasize the dramatic effect this cleanse will have on your health and your life. Try it and begin your journey of detoxification, purification and personal transformation.
