The Superfood Series: Papayas
We both have a really special place in our hearts for Papayas. For the most part, in the summer our diets are comprised of watermelon, coconut water, mangoes, and papayas. Papayas are best known for their digestive support, as they contain the enzyme papain, which eases the body and has a mild and soothing effect on the stomach. Making them a perfect beginning or ending to any meal especially, when in season. Their taste is lush and tropical almost reminiscent of a melon and a sweet flower coming together, if that makes any sense. Papayas also may have a disinfectant property when used to clean wounds and skin or mouth sores. They are rich in beta-carotene, vitamins A, C, potassium and other minerals. Papayas are perfect alone w/ a bit of lime, or in a fruit salad, or can be cut into cubes and frozen to add to smoothies. Please take advantage of what spring and summer have to offer as far as your fruit and vegetable selections. Nature will never steer you wrong. Enjoy...
