proactive healthcare: free colonoscopies!
While listening to WHUR's Daily Drum broadcast this evening, I was pleased to hear that thanks to an $800,000 grant, Howard University Hospital will be offering FREE COLONOSCOPIES to DC residents from now until June 2011!! Dr. Duane Smoot, Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Howard University College of Medicine, serves as the director of the colorectal clinic initiative. His interview along with testimony from a 55 year old man who recently got a colonoscopy at the urging of his family were very compelling. Be proactive: Please tell your folk to tell somebody to tell somebody!! Details are as follows:
*Must be 50 to 64 years of age
*Must be uninsured or underinsured
*Must be a DC resident
*Free pre procedure & bowel prep
*Free transportation to and from procedure
*Free rectal polyp (benign tumor) removal
*Some procedures may be performed at the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University in conjuction with the program.
