Yinka Shonibare

So, I was taking a walk the other day and stumbled upon this poster of a mannequin dressed in what was clearly Victorian era fashion, but, it was constructed out of various African fabrics and she was walking three cheetahs. This was one of the illest and most refreshing things I had seen in a bit, I adored everything about it. It represented so much for me in that moment, truly awestruck. I was automatically inspired to find out exactly what I was looking at, who was responsible for it, and where I could see it in its fullness, in all the best ways, of course. The artist is Yinka Shonibare, he hails from London, of Nigerian decent. He is recognized internationally for his provacative sculptural installations, photographs, and films that speak to cultural myths and misinterpretations of colonialism. It is a truly breathtaking exhibit, the best part of my week, for true...Please check his work, the exhibit is running now until Sept. 26th @ The Brooklyn Museum in NYC.... The pics speak volumes for themselves....Be Light....

Watermelonized X 10

HEALTH BENEFITS OF WATERMELON

1. The health benefits of watermelon are really great. No matter how it is sliced, it is packed with some of the most important antioxidants found in nature.
2. It is an excellent source of vitamin C and a very good source of vitamin A, particularly through its concentration of beta-carotene.
3. The beautiful red watermelon is also a source of the potent carotene antioxidant which is called lycopene. These antioxidants travel throughout the body neutralizing free radicals. Free radicals are substances in the body that can cause much damage to us. They are able to oxidize cholesterol, making it stick to blood vessel walls and thicken them which can lead to hearty attack or stroke. The lycopene which gives fruits the attractive red color that we find in watermelon can help reduce the risks of prostate cancer.
4. It is a surprising fact that watermelon is the only fruit that contains higher concentrations of lycopene than any other fresh fruit or vegetable.
5. Watermelon is a fruit that is rich in electrolytes sodium and potassium that we lose through our perspiration.
6. Watermelon is rich in the B vitamins necessary for energy production. Food experts recommend watermelon as a very good source of vitamin B6 and a good source of vitamin B1 and magnesium. Because of its higher water content approximately ninety percent and calorie value it is ranked more valuable than other fruits.
7. Watermelon has a special cooling effect and is exceptionally high in citrulline, an amino acid that our bodies use to make another amino acid, arginine, which is used in the urea cycle to remove ammonia from the body.
8. The antioxidants help reducing the severity of asthma. It also reduces the risk of colon cancer, asthma, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and prostate cancer.
9. Watermelon is a good source of thiamin, potassium and magnesium which protect our body from so many diseases.
10. Watermelon is fat free but helps energy production. It protects against macular degeneration.

Eat well and be that!!

Get out and ride folks!

Split peas and why they matter>>>

So, first off, the health benefits of the green pea: Being of the legume family, peas have almost twice the protein of other vegetables. They’re high in fiber, which supports proper digestion and elimination. And, of course, they’re low in calories. A single cup of cooked dried peas in your daily diet provides 65.1% of the recommended daily fiber. They also provide a good amount of protein, two B-vitamins, and several important minerals. Peas also include isoflavones, which are helpful in reducing the risk of breast and prostate cancer.

Below is a recipe for vegan split pea soup::
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 bay leaf
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 2 cups dried split peas
* 1/2 cup barley
* 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
* 7 1/2 cups water
* 3 carrots, chopped
* 3 stalks celery, chopped
* 3 potatoes, diced
* 1/2 cup chopped parsley
* 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
* 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
* 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Prep:::

1. In a large pot over medium high heat, saute the oil, onion, bay leaf and garlic for 5 minutes, or until onions are translucent. Add the peas, barley, salt and water. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
2. Add the carrots, celery, potatoes, parsley, basil, thyme and ground black pepper. Simmer for another hour, or until the peas and vegetables are tender.

Drinking water first thing in the morning.

Drinking water first thing in the morning.

The idea is to get up and immediately drink four glasses of water and nothing else. Wait at least 45 minutes before having any coffee or tea or breakfast.

Drinking cold water with meals can cause sludge in the intestines and lead to cancer. So drink room temperature water. Why would you want to do this? I used to do this before getting on the bike and run for a couple of years and have had a lot of energy in the morning. I never knew if the energy was from drinking the water or from the exercise itself. Drinking water or anything in the morning will kick start your metabolism and I have to agree that over the last week I have had a lot more energy and a much better level of concentration to get more done in the early morning.

Try it and see if it works. Post your comments about what you think of this water in the morning idea.

Cobra Black

Cloud Umbrella by Joonsoo Kim

Created by Dutch designer Joonsoo Kim, the Cloud Umbrella is carried around in stick form, and then inflated into mini-cumulus clouds of protection when the rain starts to pour. The umbrella is pumped using its pump-handle.

I think there might be some problems with the concept.I would expect the rain to collect in the channels and roll underneath the umbrella—soaking the user in the process. Perhaps a mountain umbrella with cloud cover would prove more practical.

Oriental Sunshine- Indo-Prog/Raga Rock

For the inna you>> Late 60s formation inspired by acid folk and Indian music. They recorded their album on Philips. The music features dreamy expanses of melancholy with quitly intropsective female vocals, buzzing sitars and tabla percussions. In the realms of world jazz and psychedelic effervescence. A peaceful and mysteriously intense experience.
