Yinka Shonibare

So, I was taking a walk the other day and stumbled upon this poster of a mannequin dressed in what was clearly Victorian era fashion, but, it was constructed out of various African fabrics and she was walking three cheetahs. This was one of the illest and most refreshing things I had seen in a bit, I adored everything about it. It represented so much for me in that moment, truly awestruck. I was automatically inspired to find out exactly what I was looking at, who was responsible for it, and where I could see it in its fullness, in all the best ways, of course. The artist is Yinka Shonibare, he hails from London, of Nigerian decent. He is recognized internationally for his provacative sculptural installations, photographs, and films that speak to cultural myths and misinterpretations of colonialism. It is a truly breathtaking exhibit, the best part of my week, for true...Please check his work, the exhibit is running now until Sept. 26th @ The Brooklyn Museum in NYC.... The pics speak volumes for themselves....Be Light....
