End of the Year Quote

"What keeps me going is goals."

Muhammad Ali

As I step back to reflect & set personal goals for the upcoming new year, I am surprised to learn that many of the people in my circle don't do the same. I've always found it helpful to focus & direct my energy on something instead of letting someone or something else dictate the flow of life. I said before here that "it's not what the future has in store for us, but what we have in store for the future." Let's make 2010 a year of positive change! Peace & love.

Sore Throat Juice Remedy

Lately I'm learning that there's a healing juice you can drink for practically any ailment that you experience.

Radish and ginger juices mixed with other juices tend to clear the sinus cavities and strengthen mucus membranes, and through doing so they often soothe sore throats. If you have a sore throat, try juicing the following:

2 (1-inch thick) organic pineapple rounds
3 radishes
1 handful of dandelion greens

Process in your juicer and drink!

*Another home remedy for sore throats:

1 slice horseradish root +
juice of one whole lemon +
warm water +
(optional for non-vegans) add honey to taste
drink!

"When we were children, we were told that we have a motherland, and that motherland was Spain. However, we have discovered later, in our lives, that as a matter of fact, we have several motherlands. And one of the greatest motherlands of all is no doubt, Africa. We love Africa. And every day we are much more aware of the roots we have in Africa... Racism is very characteristic of imperialism. Racism is very characteristic of capitalism. Katrina is—indeed, has a lot to do with racism–no doubt about it. Hate against me has a lot to do with racism. Because of my big mouth, because of my curly hair. And I’m so proud to have this mouth and this hair, because it’s African."

Avoid These 7 Foods at all Cost and You're Off To A Healthier New Year>>>.

http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/4512728/potatoe_Full.jpg
Written by: Dr. Mercola

1. Canned Tomatoes

The expert: Fredrick vom Saal, PhD, an endocrinologist at the University of Missouri who studies bisphenol-A

The resin linings of tin cans contain bisphenol-A, a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to ailments ranging from reproductive problems to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Acidity -- a prominent characteristic of tomatoes -- causes BPA to leach into your food.

2. Corn-Fed Beef

The expert: Joel Salatin, co-owner of Polyface Farms and author of books on sustainable farming

Cattle were designed to eat grass, not grains. But farmers today feed their animals corn and soybeans, which fatten up the animals faster for slaughter. A recent comprehensive study found that compared with corn-fed beef, grass-fed beef is higher in beta-carotene, vitamin E, omega-3s, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

3. Microwave Popcorn

The expert: Olga Naidenko, PhD, a senior scientist for the Environmental Working Group

Chemicals, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), in the lining of the bag, are part of a class of compounds that may be linked to infertility in humans. In animal testing, the chemicals cause liver, testicular, and pancreatic cancer. Studies show that microwaving causes the chemicals to vaporize -- and migrate into your popcorn.

4. Nonorganic Potatoes

The expert: Jeffrey Moyer, chair of the National Organic Standards Board

Root vegetables absorb herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides that wind up in soil. In the case of potatoes they're treated with fungicides during the growing season, then sprayed with herbicides to kill off the fibrous vines before harvesting. After they're dug up, the potatoes are treated yet again to prevent them from sprouting.

5. Farmed Salmon

The expert: David Carpenter, MD, director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany

Nature didn't intend for salmon to be crammed into pens and fed soy, poultry litter, and hydrolyzed chicken feathers. As a result, farmed salmon is lower in vitamin D and higher in contaminants, including carcinogens, PCBs, brominated flame retardants, and pesticides such as dioxin and DDT.

6. Milk Produced with Artificial Hormones

The expert: Rick North, project director of the Campaign for Safe Food at the Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility

Milk producers treat their dairy cattle with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH or rBST, as it is also known) to boost milk production. But rBGH also increases udder infections and even pus in the milk. It also leads to higher levels of a hormone called insulin-like growth factor in milk. In people, high levels of IGF-1 may contribute to breast, prostate, and colon cancers.

7. Conventional Apples

The expert: Mark Kastel, codirector of the Cornucopia Institute

If fall fruits held a "most doused in pesticides contest," apples would win. And increasing numbers of studies are starting to link a higher body burden of pesticides with Parkinson's disease.

Another Food to Avoid: Unfermented Soy

This one did not make the above list, but it’s one I would definitely add.

Any soy that is unfermented -- soy milk, tofu, soybean oil, soy burgers, and all the other processed soy products out there all belong to this category -- is not a health food and in fact is not a food I would advise eating at all. This is true whether it is “organic” or not.

Soy infant formula is also on this list and is one of the absolute worst foods you can give your baby.

Unfermented soy products have been linked to everything from reproductive disorders and infertility to cancer and heart disease.

Further, unfermented soy contains isoflavones that are clearly associated with reduced thyroid function. Eating unfermented soy products is likely the single largest cause of hypothyroidism in women.

Another major problem with unfermented soy is that it contains natural toxins known as “antinutrients.” This includes a large quantity of inhibitors that deter your enzymes needed for protein digestion.

While a small amount of these antinutrients would likely not be a problem, the amount of soy that many Americans are now eating (and drinking in the form of soy milk) is quite significant.

The result of consuming too many of soy’s antinutrients is extensive gastric distress and chronic deficiencies in amino acid uptake, which can result in pancreatic impairment and cancer.

For more details on soy foods, including the fermented varieties that can actually be healthy, please read Why This Type of Soy is Better.

Star Anise Is?>?>?>>?>?>?>?>>

http://www.herb-magic.com/star-anise-pack-large.jpg

Star anise comes by its name honestly, with its star shape and a licorice taste similar to regular anise, only stronger. Star anise is the seed pod of an evergreen tree (Illicium Verum) grown in southwestern China and Japan. It is about one inch high with eight segments and a dark brown rust color. Like regular anise, star anise gets its distinctive licorice taste from a chemical compound called anethol. However the two are not related botanically - star anise is a member of the Magnolia family.

In traditional Chinese medicine, star anise is prescribed as a digestive aid and to help cure colic in babies. More recently, Shikimic Acid, extracted from star anise, is one of the chief ingredients in the antiviral Tamiflu drug used to fight avian influenza.

In brief:

ORIGIN: Central America, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Morocco, South America, Spain

PARTS USED: seed pod

FRAGRANCE: pungent, licorice-like

BLENDS: amyris, bay, caraway, cardamom, cedarwood, coriander, galbanum, mandarin.

MAGICAL USES: psychic powers, luck.

PHYSICAL USES: digestive, cramps, deodorant, digestive, halitosis, indigestion, upper abdominal pain, vomiting.

Here are some key benefits of Star Anise:

Anti Rheumatic: This oil can give relief from rheumatic and arthritic pains by stimulating blood circulation and also by reducing sensation of pain in the affected areas.

Cordial: The warming effect of this oil on the respiratory and the circulatory system makes it a cordial. This property helps counter cold and deposition of phlegm and problems like rheumatism and arthritis.

Digestive: This property of Star Anise and the Star Anise Essential Oil are very commonly used to promote digestion. It has been an old practice to chew Star Anise seeds or to serve desserts containing Star Anise or to have a glass of warm water with few drops of Star Anise Essential Oil in it to aid digestion, especially after a heavy meal or feast.

Stimulant: The stimulating property of Anise Essential Oil can benefit us in the following ways. It can stimulate circulation and give relief from rheumatism and arthritis, stimulate secretion of enzymes and hormones and thus the whole metabolism and finally, it can stimulate the nervous system and the brain and can make us more active and alert.

Freshens bad breath.

Warning:::
The FDA has issued this advisory as an interim measure. One problem is that there is more than one type of star anise. The Chinese star anise is considered safe. A closely related species, the Japanese star anise, contains sikimitoxin and is toxic. Once star anise has been dried and processed, it is not possible to visually distinguish between the Chinese and Japanese forms. Some teas may actually be Japanese or a mixture of the two types. Please be mindful and well. In heavy dosages, it has narcotic effects and slows down respiration and circulation. It is poisonous to certain small animals and birds and therefore children should not be given heavy dosages. Further, it may cause irritation to certain skin types. Better to avoid in pregnancy. This may also aggravate certain types of cancers caused due to estrogen hormone. Never ingest essential oils without a prescription. Use carrier oil when applying to skin.

Bless...Ones may agree that 2009 was a year of endings, transformations, and challenges. It has been a year of overcoming, resulting in lessons being learned, which in truth makes us masters of our experiences. I am far from a master numerologist, my connection with numbers has always been casual, while simultaneously mystic. Numbers hold and dictate vibration, its an alternate language utilized by the universe to alert us of certain happenings when they are not always available in plain sight. The way it usually works is you have a number like 2009 and you add those numbers. In this case 2+9=11, which in numerology is a master number. One can stop there and just deal with the meaning of the number 11, but the idea is to reduce it again, adding 1+1, which gives you a temporary vibration of 11/2. (temporary, because it is not over a lifetime, just for a period) The key vibrations of 2009 were all about legal dealings, being tested on many levels, inspiration, art, and quick decision making. By way of this modality, ones are able to see how numbers have the power to set a tone and give focus to what a particular period will be about.

2010:::21/3

The year 2010 holds a vibration of 3, which is about travel, change, rewards, success, and new worlds. So this year will bear relief, in the form of rewards and realizations of a dream. This is a very potent period in which the old order changes, making way for the new. The newly revealed world offers ultimate realization of ones plans, hopes, and wishes; therefore, do not overlook opportunities that arise now. Plans already in progress may come to a successful completion, with accompanying rewards. Plans in the thinking stages should be carried out now, as the potential for success is high in this period. Ones can accomplish all that is desired.

Travel may be a part of this cycle, distant places and foreign interest will lure you. The desires for freedom, self expression, and pleasure urge ones to look to distant places for fulfillment. A change of jobs or residence may result from present thinking. The subconscious is developing at a pace faster than usual during this period, along with a growing sense of security and protection. Many marriages take place under a 21/3. Mental or physical investments made here bear fruit.

Ones who operate from a negative space during this period, must guard against losing emotional control and may see family responsibilities as a burden. Ones may experience delays and restrictions and neglect to grasp offered opportunities, so all situations should be examined carefully. Legal counsel should be employed in business dealings because material loss is possible.

All in all, this vibration is one of reward. Realize the opportunities opening, now is truly the time to cultivate and nourish all future dreams...Be gratuitous in all of your moments, for they make our today...Bless all of your days and all of your ways...Happy New You...Eternal Love...Light...Abundance...and Magic...Peace from us all...love...

An Organic Start in Life ....

Peace Family

I am going to talk about something that right now is very important to me at this point of my life. The eduction that I have received on this topic this year has been an eye opener, especially as there have been many myths and taboos surrounding the subject.
Its the first food that will ever touch a humans lips, the first calorie the first vitamin the first meal.

As we all know since time began women have been breast feeding their off springs, it still continues today, however the amount of women in the western culture who are maintaining this is scarily declining - some people believe that in the first six months of life babies are not able to thrive on breast milk alone and need to supplement them with artificial milk that are sold in the store. The truth is the best food for babies in the first six months is human milk. African and Asian women around the continents still live by this method of feeding. On average, breastfed babies have fewer infections in their early life. In particular, they have less diarrhoea and vomiting, chest infections, and ear infections compared to babies who are not breast fed. The main reason for this is that antibodies and other proteins are passed in the breast milk from mother to baby. These help to protect against infection.

In developed countries such as the UK the reduction in the risk of infection is significant. In developing countries such as certain countries in Africa the reduction in the risk of infection is dramatic. For example, a review in 42 developing countries estimated that exclusive breastfeeding for six months, with partial breastfeeding continuing to 12 months, could prevent 1.3 million deaths each year in children under five years..

Natural milk contains all the nutrition at their specific amount that the each individual infant needs not to mention organic and tailor made. Most people are unaware that Adults and Children are lactose intolerant to cows milk, however Human milk is nutritionally superior to cows milk and easier to digest.

It contains all the nutrients, antibodies, hormones, antioxidants and other factors an infant needs to thrive.

• Breastmilk prepares the baby for the variety of tastes he will come across in later life. Constantly changing flavour it is sometimes sweet, spicy, nutty and so on. Therefore, it is a gentle introduction to the outside world.

• Breastfed babies are less likely to suffer from childhood cancers, eczema and asthma. And if a breastfed baby does get ill, the illness is often less severe than it would otherwise have been.

• Breastfed babies brains develop more quickly. They have higher IQ's. Jaws and teeth develop with fewer problems than bottlefed babies. Speech development is also more advanced.

• Breastfed babies are less likely to suffer cot death.

• Mum's immune system is constantly on the look out for infection and illness. When it detects anything white blood cells flood her milk and therefore baby has an improved immune response. As a result gastroenteritis, a nasty tummy bug, is much less prevalent in breastfed babies.

• Breastmilk is always available on demand and is always the correct temperature and consistency for the baby.

• Baby can always be comforted when distressed or ill. Sucking on a lovely soft mummy-smelling breast is extremely comforting. It is also much less harmful to teeth than a sugary drink or feed.

• No packaging or processing is involved in supplying breastmilk; so breastfeeding protects the environment. Baby will grow up in a cleaner world!

Advantages in long-term health:

Many studies have looked at the possible long-term health benefits of breastfeeding. There is now good evidence that, on average, the following health problems in later life are less common in those who had been breast fed compared to those who had not:.

•Obesity and overweight
•High blood pressure
•High cholesterol level
•Eczema
•Diabetes
•Leukaemia
•Asthma

and for the mothers :

Nursing helps mum lose weight after baby is born
Breast feeding requires an average of 500 extra calories per day and breastfeeding mothers who eat a normal diet lose the extra weight they gained during pregnancy faster than mums who choose to bottle feed. In one study, mothers who breastfed exclusively or partially had significantly larger reductions in hip circumference and weigh less above their pre-pregnancy weights at 1 month postpartum than mothers who fed formula exclusively

The problem these days, is living in big cities as I do in London, breastfeeding doesn't seem as convenient for some young urban working mothers, alternatively using formula which in turn expands baby's stomach and slows down digestion seems the next best thing. Some mothers feel they do not want to feed in public, but my view is ..breast feeding is the most natural part of child bearing and the more people are educated with the untold amount of benefits (too many more to mention in this blog) the more accepting the public will be, hopefully more and more women will exclusively breast feed as time goes on.
