Person of the Day>>>>Little Beaver

Willie Hale (born August 15, 1945), often known by the name Little Beaver, is an American R&B guitarist, singer and songwriter featured on many hit records since the 1960s.

Hale was born in Forrest City, Arkansas, and acquired the nickname "Little Beaver" as a child because of his prominent teeth. He became a virtuoso guitarist at an early age. In the early 1960s he moved to Florida, and in 1969 was signed by songwriter and producer Willie Clarke to the Cat label, an offshoot of Henry Stone’s TK Records.

What Do Your Dreams Mean?

Even though we have come a long way, years of research and hundreds of dream books later, the meaning of dreams is still a bit of a mystery. There are still no concrete answers to the questions “what do dreams mean?” or “why do we have them?.” However, researchers are generally in agreement that working with dreams can provide some beneficial understanding into anxieties and feelings on personal issues.

Don't Eat Bread>>> Grow Up!

The title of this post is a little harsh but its the only way for you to overstand the importance of the phrase, "you are what you eat". Most people love bread (in its various forms), it is simple, cheap, always available and mostly tasty. Bread fits in on virtually any time of the day. But what do you actually know of this SIMPLE food? Did you know that white bread is probably the one worst way to provide your body with carbohydrates?

Bread contains simple carbohydrates. This means it has the same effect as plain table sugar. What does it mean? It means the carbs in the bread are digested quickly. They provide a boost in your blood sugar level, That makes the body release large amounts of insulin. I don't want to get into the biological details but in general, insulin is used to level your blood sugar, when insulin levels are high the body does not want to burn fat. In other words, the insulin tells the body to not use the fat but to keep it. Below is a simple video:

Researchers believe that a diet heavy in high-glycemic grains actually increases hunger, prompting you to eat more calories throughout the day. This is why 30 minutes after most people eat they are hungry again. Wheat is a common allergen and contains more than 80 different components that can cause a negative reaction. Wheat products contain opioids, substances with amino-acid sequences very similar to those in narcotic like drugs. These substances can set the stage for addictions, overeating, and binge eating in people with undetected wheat sensitivity, says James Braly, MD, author of Food Allergy Relief.

Making the choice

People who stop eating wheat often worry that they won't get enough essential nutrients. Yet if you watch your diet, this should not be a problem. "One of the great dietary myths in the Western world is that we need whole grains for health," says Loren Cordain, PhD, author of The Paleo Diet (John Wiley & Sons, 2001). Many nutritionists assert that even without any grains, it's easy to consume a nutritionally balanced diet from vegetables, fruits, fish, meats, and nuts (Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association, 2002, vol. 5).

Continuing to eat wheat may be the right choice for you, but if you decide to be wheat-free, try replacing wheat products in your diet with nongluten options, including amaranth, millet, corn, quinoa, and teff; or with rice and rice products, such as wild rice, brown rice bread, and brown rice. But make sure to follow the age-old advice: Eat your fruits and vegetables. That's a surefire strategy for getting the nutrients you need and optimizing good health.

Up to 90% of people who complain of these kinds of neurological and behavioral problems also have documented elevated antibodies to wheat, indicative of wheat sensitivities. The connection is undeniable. When these people stop eating wheat, their symptoms invariably diminish." Omit wheat from your diet – even though many foods have wheat as their primary ingredient.

* Depressed? Infertile? Migraines? Anxious? Could be gluten intolerance

EAT TO LIVE MAN! Don't eat to get full. Eating bread is bad for you, and that's the half of it. What about the things you put under the bun like hotdogs, chicken, jelly, peanut butter yadda yadda yadda. Plus, people toast it...(laughing) GROW UP! All you are eating is happy meals. Happy meals are for children. BUT WHY EVEN FEED A HAPPY MEAL TO A CHILD. If you as an adult can't brake down complex overly processed food, what makes YOU think a child can. Then we wonder why children are so hyper and sick all the time. Everything is connected. WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE for going with the norm. What is the norm? A western diet reflects western ways simple and plain. Most westerners don't live long and if they do, they are full of cancers and ailments. Who wants to die suffering? Some say "Oh, your gonna die anyway, might as well enjoy it". Sure.................. Be well>>>

Lemon Water:::Health Benefits

Start your engine everyday by drinking a glass of room temperature, lukewarm to warm, lemon water first thing every morning! This is a tip from Traditional Chinese Medicine. It's important to start your day with water everyday because of the time lapse inbetween going to bed and arising. Water hydrates your body naturally. Caffeine found in coffee, dehydrates your body.
# Lemon is a diuretic. This means that lemon water is especially good for people with urinary tract infections. People with arthritis or rheumatism can benefit from consuming lemons because it helps flush out toxins and bacteria. When lemon is mixed with coffee, it also helps eliminate headaches. (Interesting, caffeine is usually a precursor to headaches. Maybe the lemons cancel out the side effects of the caffeine found in coffee.)

# When externally applied, lemon juice poured on a cotton ball and gently applied to the nostrils can stop nose bleeds although this may sting a little. When massaged gently into gums, lemon juice can effectively stop bleeding gums. Lemon juice with glycerin is effective when used on the lips to treat chapped lips. (Don't apply lemon juice however, if the skin on your lips is cracked. Ouch!) Applied on your skin, lemon juice can also help prevent sunburn. Lemons are a key ingredient in effective liver cleanses.

# Water cleanses and purifies your body and also has an alkalizing effect. It is essential to every bodily function at a cellular level. Bottled water has become a staple product of our society. The water you drink is essential to your existence but we forget how much we rely on it until we don't have it. Then we really miss and crave it. (Think about Katrina or Survivor!)
The Power of Lemon Water

# Lemon water helps clean the toxins out of your body. Your skin can't look healthy if your body is holding onto toxins! When you get rid of toxic waste in your system, your skin will show it first! Your skin will be the first thing you notice cause it looks clear and not sallow and full of acne. However, that's not all the benefits that lemons provide for us! (Another healthy way to get rid of toxins that hold onto your fat and cause visceral fat, is by doing a health cleanse!)

# Lemon can help relieve many digestion problems when mixed with hot water. These include nausea, heartburn, constipation and parasites. It is even known to help relieve hiccups when consumed as a juice. Lemon juice acts as a liver tonic and helps you digest your food by helping your liver produce more bile. It decreases the amount of phlegm produced by your body. It is also thought to help dissolve gallstones.

# Because of its high Vitamin C content, it is used to prevent and treat many infections, hasten wound healing, and diminish allergies. Lemon juice also relieves symptoms of asthma, tonsillitis, and sore throats.

One last thing>>> Lemon juice removes kidney stones....Be well

Oldest Thing on Earth>>>

The oldest living thing on eArth is not a Giant Redwood tree thats the largest living thing on the plAnet, but a Bristlecone Pine tree located in the White Mountains of California dated to be aged over 4,700 years old. We're talking about a single plant here; one that reproduces externally - flowers, seeds. There are a few candidates including a creosote bush in the Mojave Desert, placed by some at 11,000 years old. However, most scientists agree on the Bristlecone Pine. Genus: Pinus, Species: longaeva.

How old? Dr. Edmund Schulman dated an individual tree in the White Mountains in California at over 4,700 years. This tree is nicknamed Methuselah, and it's location is kept secret to protect it.

Amazingly, this long living species, seems to thrive in the some of the harshest conditions. They are found in several US mountain ranges, typically at the 11,000 foot level. That is some very windy, very cold territory!

JA=YES!

Pondering the intricacies of painting and the people who create, "Open Canvas" is DC's first consistent live freestyle art show. Every month, local painters freestyle paint images to canvas live in front of hundreds of people. Nothing is planned, every piece is improvised. For the exhibit, rather than framing the images, the artists mount them on isles, encouraging viewers to get close to experience the work. There is also an opportunity for the crowd to play an active role in creating a piece live as well. While artists paint, Dj Underdog blends and eclectic mix of rare grooves. Rather than a conventional set with ipods, cd's or a play list, DJ Underdog fuses everything from Bjork to Backyard Band in a sultry mix . His mix of "records only", expresses a sort of devoted appreciation for the faded era in music that rang loud before the 21st century. Open Canvas is everything and nothing at once. Be the canvas. Be inspired.

The Power of Ginger>>>>

In Eastern societies, ginger has always been known for its healing powers. Pythagorus was one of its greatest supporters in Ancient Greece. King Henry VIII of England used it to protect against the plague. Though we don't know for sure if ginger can actually protect you from the plague, we do know that it is beneficial in many other ways.
Denmark researchers have discovered that ginger can block the effects of prostaglandins. These are substances that cause inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain, which leads to migraines.A researcher at Cornell University Medical College discovered that ginger has an effect on blood clots that is similar to that of aspirin. By the same token, it appears that high cholesterol levels are lowered using the same active ingredient, thromboxane.Ginger can definitely give you many benefits but more is not always better. An ounce a day should give you all the benefits you will need.
Fresh ginger root is available year round in the produce section of your local market.Ginger is the underground rhizome of the ginger plant with a firm, striated texture. The flesh of the ginger rhizome can be yellow, white or red in color, depending upon the variety. It is covered with a brownish skin that may either be thick or thin, depending upon whether the plant was harvested when it was mature or young.
Historically, ginger has a long tradition of being very effective in alleviating symptoms of gastrointestinal distress. In herbal medicine, ginger is regarded as an excellent carminative (a substance which promotes the elimination of intestinal gas) and intestinal spasmolytic (a substance which relaxes and soothes the intestinal tract). Modern scientific research has revealed that ginger possesses numerous therapeutic properties including antioxidant effects, an ability to inhibit the formation of inflammatory compounds, and direct anti-inflammatory effects
Whenever possible, choose fresh ginger over the dried form of the spice since it is not only superior in flavor but contains higher levels of gingerol as well as ginger's active protease (it's anti-inflammatory compound). Fresh ginger root is sold in the produce section of markets. When purchasing fresh ginger root, make sure it is firm, smooth and free of mold. Ginger is generally available in two forms, either young or mature. Mature ginger, the more widely available type, has a tough skin that requires peeling while young ginger, usually only available in Asian markets, does not need to be peeled.Today, the top commercial producers of ginger include Jamaica, India, Fiji, Indonesia and Australia.

Leave the Germs at the Door?

In many cultures it's customary to remove your shoes before entering a home for spiritual or practical reasons. The professional cleaning industry estimates that we track 85% of the dirt in our homes in from the outside on our shoes or paws of pets. In a recent warning about lead exposure, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) specifically recommends that shoes remain outside the house. According to a report called The Door Mat Study, lead-contaminated soil from the outside causes almost all the lead dust inside homes. It notes that wiping shoes on a mat and removing them at the door cuts lead dust by 60 percent. The study explains that limiting the amount of dust and track-in may also help reduce exposure to lawn and garden pesticides, wood smoke and industrial toxins, mutagens, dust mites, and allergens.

The BEST solution is to take off your shoes as you enter your home. It is a good excuse to buy some great socks or slippers. And your flooring will stay clean as well as keep dirt and potential toxic threats from getting into carpets. If going shoeless is not acceptable to family members, suggest that they wear house shoes (that don't go outside), slippers or socks.

Walking around in soft slippers, socks, or barefoot does another wonderful thing - it helps us relax and unwind. Wow....remember that...unwinding?

Discipline Makes Things Easier>>

We might imagine that, just because our bathroom is always clean from scrubbing and sanitizing. it’s the one room in the house where we are free of bacteria and germs – or at least, that there are fewer of them. Far from that being the case, experts warn about our oral hygiene, by keeping our toothbrush as farther away from the toilet as possible.

According to Fitness Magazine, a recent research by Gerba has shown that, even if we close the lid of the toilet as we flush, bacteria from it is sprayed all over, including on the toothbrush. It is highly recommended we kept it in a drawer or in the medicine cabinet, preferably with a protection cover as well.

Microorganisms are ejected when you flush the toilet and land all over the bathroom, even if you close the lid, according to research by Gerba. They also say you should never flush the toilet when having a release(number 2), because of the same sentiment. Keep your toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible, or put it in the medicine cabinet, he says. If someone in the house is ill and using the same bathroom as you are, there germs could be spread this way.

On another note, microorganisms from the toilet on the toothbrush might not be hazardous to our health, not brushing properly or at least three times a day can affect our body in ways we probably never thought of before, as a recent study has shown. According to the research, brushing promotes gum health, while also decreasing the risks of having a heart attack. This is possible because people who suffered a heart attack were found to have more bacteria in their mouth than those who did not, where from the conclusion that brushing can eliminate them. Interesting right?

The message here is that even though some specific periodontal pathogens have been found to be associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease, the total bacterial pathogenic burden is more important than the type of bacteria. In other words, the total number of ‘bugs’ is more important than one single organism. Although the research was not able to explain in detail how brushing could prevent a heart attack, it did show that oral hygiene was closely linked to overall health. Wellness and Guidance>>>>

Competence b4 Comfort>>>>>>

Some very gratuitous videos of Land Rover Defenders in action. The company has been advertising the fact that 75% of its vehicles ever sold are still on the road. Now that is something I can get behind, the concept of design with no obsolescence. (I think I might have just coined a new ACL strapline.) If you think about it, the concept also applies to clothing made on Savile Row. The suits are passed down to sons and coveted by vintage buyers. I can see the adverts now, 78% of our suits are still in closets today.

Anyway enjoy the Defender out in the wild, in all of her glory.

The Sun::::Effortless Health Benefits

The sun warms our planet every day, provides the light by which we see and is absolutely necessary for life on Earth. But if you know like I or many know, it's much deeper than that. Most people do whatever they can to shield themselves from the powerful sun rays and heat from the sun. When there is no sun people are unhappy and when there is too much sun people are unhappy. Some scientists believe that increased exposure to sunlight (and the vitamin d related to such exposure) may in fact decrease your chances of developing cancer .

Vitamin E is an essential nutrient the human body needs to function normally. The term vitamin E actually represents a group of substances, the most important (to the human body) being alpha-tocopherol. Alpha-tocopherol compounds are chemical compounds of which many have vitamin E activity and describes a series of organic compounds consisting of various methylated phenols. The main sources of vitamin E in the diet are vegetable oils (especially safflower oil, sunflower oil, and cottonseed oil), green leafy vegetables, nuts, cereals, wheat germ, and whole wheat products. Vitamin E deficiency is rare and occurs almost exclusively in people with an inherited or acquired condition that impairs their ability to absorb this vitamin...

Lets keep it simple. Overexposure to anything is a health risk, but scientist have proven that 30 minute intervals under the suns rays is a healthy way to absorb vitamin E and protect yourself against prostate, bladder, and colorectal cancer. Vitmamin E bolsters the immune system.

Vitamin E is also used to protect against the effects of pollution and lessens the risk for cataracts. Wow...Sun exposure lessens the risk of cataracts...who woulda thought? Be well...Guidance foreva!

How to Drink More Water Every Day

There are a variety of reasons to drink plenty of water each day. Adequate water intake prevents dehydration, cleans out the body, and promotes healing processes. Substituting water for beverages high in calories can also help control weight. Follow the steps below to make sure you're getting enough of this most basic necessity.

1. Determine how much water you need. You've probably heard the "8 by 8" rule - drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day (2 quarts, 1.8 liters) - but the amount of water a person needs varies depending on his or her weight and activity level. Another way to determine your specific recommended water intake is to divide your weight (in pounds) by two. The resulting number is the number of ounces of water you need each day. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs., strive to drink 75 ounces of water daily. For those who use the Metric system, divide your weight (in kilograms) by 30 (ex. somebody weighing 70 kg is going to need 2.3 liters per day). Keep in mind that these recommended intake numbers are controversial and some experts believe they are a gross exaggeration. See "warnings" below for more information.

2. Measure your daily intake of water. Do this for a few days. If you find that you're drinking less than the recommended quantity, try some of the following tips:

3. Carry water with you everywhere you go in a bottle or other container.

4. Keep a glass or cup of water next to you whenever you'll be sitting down for a long time, such as when you're at your desk at work. Drink from it regularly as you're working.

5. Try wearing a digital watch that beeps at the beginning of each hour. Use that as a reminder to pour yourself a glass of water. Vow to drink that water before the next beep. If you drink only one small (6 ounce or 180 ml) cup per hour, you'll have consumed 48 ounces (1.4 liters) by the end of an 8-hour workday.

6. Get a water purification system. Purified water tastes very good and may help make drinking water more appealing to you. Be aware, though, that as you grow accustomed to purified water, you may find that tap water leaves a bad taste in your mouth, even though it may be better for your teeth.[1] Keep in mind that fluoride, found in small quantities in tap water, is necessary for strong, healthy teeth.

7. Add lemons or limes to your water. This makes it taste better and makes you want to drink more of it. Be careful not to make it too sour; just a splash of sourness should do the trick. Cucumber slices can also be added to a glass of water. Some mint leaves can be added to a pitcher of water which should be allowed to sit overnight. These are cheap alternatives to the bottled flavored water.

8. Eat water rich foods, such as fruits like watermelon, which is 92% water by weight. Blend up some seedless fresh watermelon flesh with some ice and place a few sprigs of mint (optional) - one of the most refreshing drinks, especially for the summertime. Cranberry juice is also another option, and has a bitter taste. Patients suffering from urinary infection caused by insufficient intake of water should drink cranberry juice and eat watermelon if not plain water everyday. A tomato is 95% water. An egg is about 74% water. An uncooked piece of lean meat is about 70% water.

9. Keep water cold if it tastes better for you. Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator at home. Add ice or freeze water in a sports bottle before taking it with you, it will eventually melt and stay cold. However, too cold water will cost your body energy to heat it to body temperature. But drinking cold water can also help burn more calories than drinking room temperature or warm water because your body would need to heat to heat it to body temperature.

10. Climate can drastically change how much water you need. On hot days that require you to be outside, you should drink more water to counteract the fluids you lose when you sweat. This not only keeps your body hydrated, it can prevent heat-related illness.div style='text-align:center'>

WHY is Water Wet?

Water is wet because the wetter, the better. In other words, "Viscosity." This is not to be confused with the city of the Visigoths who ended up ransacking the countryside and pillaging the poor villagers, and yes, the Village People, too.

Why is water wet? Water is wet so that the fish and other ocean, lake and river creatures can move through it with fluent ease. Friction is not your friend when you are trying to move. We need to be able to drink. We need for boats not to sink. We need for our plumbing to work. This is why water is wet.

But, really, why is water wet? Water is wet because our sensations say it is so. We feel wetness. We get out of a pool and we are dripping, uh, you know. We take a shower and we're, um, you know again.

The question of why is water wet cannot be answered with regular science methodology, but can be answered in Zen Physics. Water is wet because this is the nature of water. The nature of rock is to be hard. The nature of grass is to be green. The nature of water is to be wet. To take away from its true nature is to destroy what is and thus water is not water anymore. It may be ice, but it surely is not water. Water begets wetness. Wetness begets slipperiness. Slipperiness begets falling. Falling begets a long and painful hospital stay.

Believe it or not but water is a bit sticky. All fluids have what we call surface tension, a tendency to stick to things even itself. You have probably notice how little objects can be stuck to the surface of water and not sink. Certain insects walk on water using this phenomanon. So when you get water on yourself it kind of sticks to you. You can't shake it off, you have it wipe it away or evaporate it. The reason it feels as it feels when water touches the skin is actually a complex electro-chemical reaction which works at amazing speeds. The sensory inputs are a combination of:

1. Your body's pH at that moment
2. The water's pH
3. Your body's temperature at that moment
4. The water's temperature
5. The atmospheric pressure
6. Molecular polarity

You happy Chris?

WHY ASK WHY)))))))))

WHY IS THE SKY BLUE?

The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air. However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue. As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white.

WHY IS THE SUNSET RED?

As the sun begins to set, the light must travel farther through the atmosphere before it gets to you. More of the light is reflected and scattered. As less reaches you directly, the sun appears less bright. The color of the sun itself appears to change, first to orange and then to red. This is because even more of the short wavelength blues and greens are now scattered. Only the longer wavelengths are left in the direct beam that reaches your eyes. The sky around the setting sun may take on many colors. The most spectacular shows occur when the air contains many small particles of dust or water. These particles reflect light in all directions. Then, as some of the light heads towards you, different amounts of the shorter wavelength colors are scattered out. You see the longer wavelengths, and the sky appears red, pink or orange.
