Rahsaan Roland Kirk

Roland Kirk was born in Columbus, Ohio and became blind at an early age due to poor medical treatment. That never stopped him from being one of the most raw and innovative jazz musicians of all time. His creativity and most importantly his pure love for music is what set him apart from others.

Roland Kirk played saxaphone, flute and many other instruments. He often played more than one at a time, harmonizing with himself in an unbelievable fashion. He would even sometimes play the flute through his nose! Adding to this unique approach was the fact that many of his instruments were homemade.

He released 28 solo albums from 1956 until his death in 1977 and for some reason people were and still are sleeping on this cat!
If you can get your hands on some of his records, I would highly recommend it. Or even just take a few minutes and witness the following video clips. Peace.

(peep especially 2:20-2:50!)
