What Happened to Good Medicine? Medicine Medicates...But Does Not Cure>>

http://www.equine-therapies.co.uk/userimages/Herbs.jpg
Despite the yearly claims of great new pharmaceutical drugs, the percentage of Americans who die each year from cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other disease names has not decreased. Every year in the US, more people die from the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs than die in car accidents. Clearly this is not good medicine. All of this begs the question - What happened to good medicine?

Where Is The Good Medicine?

Did you know that the herbs astragalus and elderberry, and the amino acid; L-Lysine, are powerful broad-spectrum antiviral agents? Did you know that garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic? There are many safe and effective natural remedies for the multitude of maladies that effect mankind but your doctor will never recommend them. Conventional medicine has nothing to combat the vast majority of viruses (they only suppress the symptoms), but still doctors will not recommend astragalus, elderberry, or any of the other natural anti-virals because they are plant based.

Plant-based treatments cannot produce huge profits because they cannot be patented. Huge profits are needed to pay for the expensive FDA approved clinical trials. So, plant-based treatments never get FDA approval to treat a disease. Your doctor can only prescribe treatments that are FDA approved. If your doctor prescribes treatments that are not FDA approved, he or she can be sued or lose their license.

The End of Plant-based Medicine

Around the beginning of the last century, Rockefeller and Carnegie obtained control over medical school education through the use of the Flexner Report which was written by Henry Pritchett, who was in the employ of Rockefeller. This report favored only the medical schools that concentrated on using drug-based treatments. (See also: "THE DRUG STORY") These schools started to receive large amounts of money from Rockefeller and Carnegie. In 1905, 160 medical schools were in operation. By 1927, 17 years after the Flexner Report, the number had dropped to 80. From then on, pharmaceutical company control of medical school curriculum's was assured by the large amounts of money they would "give" to the schools for approved research. That research of course was approved or disapproved by the pharmaceutical companies. Only research that would lead to treatments that could be patented received approval. That eliminated any treatments derived from plants.

Treatment derived from plants are more safe than chemical based treatments that can be patented.

NASA's Fermi Telescope Detects Gamma Rays From 'Star Factories' In Other Galaxies>>

Nearby galaxies undergoing a furious pace of star formation also emit lots of gamma rays, say astronomers using NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Two so-called "starburst" galaxies, plus a satellite of our own Milky Way galaxy, represent a new category of gamma-ray-emitting objects detected both by Fermi and ground-based observatories.

"Starburst galaxies have not been accessible in gamma rays before," said Fermi team member Seth Digel, a physicist at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, Calif. "Most of the galaxies Fermi sees are exotic and distant blazars, which produce jets powered by matter falling into enormous black holes. But these new galaxies are much closer to us and much more like our own."

Gamma rays are the most energetic form of light. Fermi has detected more than a thousand point sources and hundreds of gamma-ray bursts, but the satellite also detects a broad glow that roughly follows the plane of our galaxy. This diffuse gamma-ray emission results when fast-moving particles called cosmic rays strike galactic gas or even starlight.

Hey... Dick Gregory...

Every now and then I see Dick Gregory in the grocery store, walking, or getting in his Lincoln...A few things come to mind when I see him: First, I know he doesn't want to be bothered. Second, man I would love to build with him. Thirdly, man that's Dick Gregory...yes Dick Gregory...if you don't know now you know...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Gregory

Dick Gregory, known to most people as a comedian, is also a profoundly serious and compassionate person. active in causes for both humans and other animals. Already in 1968 the civil rights leader compared humanity’s treatment of animals to the conditions of America’s inner cities:

“Animals and humans suffer and die alike. If you had to kill your own hog before you ate [him or her], most likely you would not be able to do it. To hear the hog scream, to see the blood spill, to see the baby being taken away from [his or her] momma, and to see the look of death in the animal’s eye would turn your stomach. So you get the man at the packing house to do the killing for you.
“In like manner, if the wealthy aristocrats who are perpetuating conditions in the ghetto actually heard the screams of ghetto suffering, or saw the slow death of hungry little kids, or witnessed the strangulation of manhood and dignity, they could not continue the killing. But the wealthy are protected from such horror...If you can justify killing to eat meat, you can justify the conditions of the ghetto. I cannot justify either one.”

Gregory credits the Judeo-Christian ethic and the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with having caused him to become a vegetarian. In 1973, he drew a connection between vegetarianism and nonviolent civil disobedience: ". . . the philosophy of nonviolence, which I learned from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during my involvement in the civil rights movement, was first responsible for my change in diet. I became a vegetarian in 1965. I had been a participant in all of the ‘major’ and most of the ‘minor’ civil rights demonstrations of the early sixties, including the March on Washington and the Selma to Montgomery March.

“Under the leadership of Dr. King, I became totally committed to nonviolence, and I was convinced that nonviolence meant opposition to killing in any form. I felt the commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill’ applied to human beings not only in their dealings with each other—war, lynching, assassination, murder and the like—but in their practice of killing animals for food or sport. Animals and humans suffer and die alike . . .Violence causes the same pain, the same spilling of blood, the same stench of death, the same arrogant, cruel and brutal taking of life.”

In a 1979 interview, Gregory explained: “Because of the civil rights movement, I decided I couldn’t be thoroughly nonviolent and participate in the destruction of animals for my dinner...I didn’t become a vegetarian for health reasons; I became a vegetarian strictly for moral reasons . . . Vegetarianism will definitely become a people’s movement.”

When asked if humans will ultimately have to answer to a Supreme Being for their exploitation of animals, Gregory replied, “I think we answer for that every time we go to the hospital with cancer and other diseases.”

Gregory has also expressed the opinion that the plight of the poor will improve as humans cease to slaughter animals: “I would say that the treatment of animals has something to do with the treatment of people. The Europeans have always regarded their slaves and the people they have colonized as animals.”

Gregory advocates a raw-food vegan diet.

Herbs that Heal>>CALENDULA FLOWERS

CALENDULA FLOWERS are widely considered to be a Lucky herb. It has an orange or yellow flower and is native to the Mediterranean area.For those who like the technical facts, calendula contains these medicinal ingredients: calendulin, narcissin, beta-carotene and other carotenoids, lupeol, isoquercitrin, amyrin, rutin, volatile oils and sterols. Polysaccharides with properties that stimulate immunity are also found in the flowers.

Calendula can be taken internally or externally. Internally, calendula is especially used for gastrointestinal disorders. It protects the lining of the stomach and intestines by inhibiting the causes of swelling and inflammation, and by limiting the effects of the bacteria associated with gastritis, peptic ulcers, and stomach cancer. Taken orally calendula has been used to sooth stomach ulcers and inflammation. Some report it to be effective in fighting fever, boils, abscesses, and recurrent vomiting.

Calendula's orange petals contain the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory secrets that make it effective externally. These two A's have put calendula into the forefront of treatment for various infections. For example, some find it more effective in treating ear infections than leading prescription drugs. Calendula tea makes a great eye wash for those suffering from chronic conjunctivitis (pink eye). As an ointment, it attacks the bacteria causing swelling and thus will soothe inflammation. It is also used to treat vaginal itching caused by menopausal tissue changes, insect bites, eczema, diaper rash, acne, hemorrhoids, burns, scalds, and sunburn.

MUSIC FOR THOUGHT

Sometimes (majority of the time for me) we get so caught up on life and we treat everyday as if it's a battle to win and often forget the blessings in front of us. No matter what the goal is or the struggle we overcome, it's never over....we're only just beginning. Bless your ears with Koop's "Waltz for Koop." (Old I know but you can hear it again:)

Eating and Drinking Don't Mix >>>

This dilutes the stomach acids and digestive enzymes. It is best to drink 20 minutes before your meal - this helps uptake of nutrients and move bowels.

If you feel your mouth is just so darn dry while eating, that is likely due to being:

* stressed while you eat,

* eating in a rush,

* not being aware that you are eating

* secretory glands not functioning well due to drinking during meals [conditioned not to secrete]

If any of those explain you while eating, try to adjust. Your secretory glands will regain proper function once you train yourself not to drink during meals.

If you absolutely cannot avoid drinking during meals then:

* avoid cold drinks

* drink warm to hot teas

* avoid milk during meals
