These are really one of my favorites but, I think I expressed this before.  JD Sports UK, has done it again with this lovely monochromatic offering of the Adidas Forrest Hills.  I've had  the pleasure of owning at least two pairs of these in different color ways, of course. These are truly a vision and I  just had to share. Less is truly more.  Enjoy...Bless....

Celebration of the Life and Works of Ernie Barnes 1938-2009 FLY HIGH

On this day we want to pay homage to the life and works of Ernie Barnes.  A former professional football player, throughout his career he played for The San Diego Chargers and The Denver Broncos.  In 1965, NY Jets owner Sonny Werbin began to recognize his artistic talent and replaced his football salary for one season so that he could devote his time to perfecting his craft.  Ernie Barnes is best known for his unique figurative style of painting and how he was able to capture the powerful energy of people in their everyday, through music and movement.  Even if you are not familiar with him per say, you have seen his work.  Most of us have seen at least one episode of "Good Times" and his mural work can be seen in the opening and closing credits.  Its one of his most recognizable pieces to date, entitled "Sugar Shack".  He also was commissioned to do the artwork for Marvin Gaye's album "I Want You".  Hailed as the father of Neo-Mannerist style, he is regarded as on of the country's foremost figurative painters.  His work is graceful, intense, fluid, and welcoming.  I remember seeing his work growing up and the feelings that they evoked.  It just looked and felt like a space in time that you wanted to be a part of.  We give so much thanks for his contribution and the colors that he painted in the world.  Its so dope when you can bear witness to a prophecy fulfilled, that's what its all about, for all of us.  Blessings of light and appreciation to his family.  Look him up...Be well...Bless...

Well Water Wishes

It seems as though "Mama Sun" is trying to make a permanent appearance, at least for a bit and we need all the vitamin D we can get.  I truly give thanks for that, I love winter clothes but, don't enjoy being cold at all. With the sun comes the heat, and with that comes the concern of making sure that we are drinking sufficient amounts of water.  Your body goes down fast without it.  Every cell is regulated, monitored, and dependent upon an efficient flow of water.  It maintains the body's equilibrium and temperature, lubricates tissues, flushes waste and toxins, moisturizes the skin, and acts as a shock absorber for joints, bones, and muscles.  I know that most doctor's and books say that we should drink no less than 8 glasses a day but, through my experiences everyone has different requirements.  Its based on size, activity level, which influences the amount of liquid we use through sweat, the climate temperature, and our diets.  A diet higher in fruits and vegetables provides more total fluids through food than a diet high in fats, animal protein, and dairy products.  I try to begin and end every day with a glass of water, it just evens everything out. Soak up the sun and say no to tap, no matter what the reports say, keep it clean and pure...Travel and walk Light....Bless

Pesticides: Why Organic???

We are definitely living in a time where the reasoning behind "green living" is chic but, not completely overstood.  Don't get me wrong, I am thankful to see a shift in the world's consciousness, however we can get it, is good.  We do however, need to be informed on the what's and the why's.  How much do we really know about Pesticides?  And do we know that it takes a lot more than a fruit and vegetable wash to get rid of them.  A report from the Pesticide  Action Network of North America reveals that most of us are exposed to toxic pesticides from foods, up to 70 times a day.  They work their way into our bodies faster than they can be eliminated, resulting in allergies, respiratory, and nervous conditions.  Pesticide sprays encourage life-threatening bacteria to grow on crops, posing a real threat for the folks who eat fresh commercial produce.(especially strawberries, raspberries, and lettuce.)  New studies also link pesticides and pollutants to hormone dysfunctions, psychological disorders, and birth defects. The U.S. is one of the largest sellers of DDT (a pesticide) to the rest of the world.  Many food producing countries that supply the U.S. do not have pesticide bans, so imported foods can still carry a toxic threat.  Studies show that consistent exposure to PCB residues from our foods has resulted in a rise in breast cancer, pollutants are stored in fatty tissue areas, like breast tissue.  Please begin to take steps to protect yourself and your family from chemical residues in food.  We suggest that you buy organic, local, and seasonal produce whenever possible.  Organic food standards require that no food labeled organic can be treated w/ chemical pesticides, radiation, or genetic engineering.  Some fruits and vegetables with low pesticide residues are avocados, onions, broccoli, bananas, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, corn, and watermelon.  Please wash all your food thoroughly, especially these because their residues are a bit higher, strawberries, cherries, spinach, bell peppers, cucumbers, and grapes. Enjoy all the fruits of the season.  Be well...

The Ancient Practice of QiGong and Tai Chi

QiGong (pronounced Chee-gung), was practiced in China as early as 500B.C.  As a main pillar in traditional chinese medicine today, QiGong helps to clear the body meridians of obstructions to health and restores the body's inner healing forces.  Taoist and Buddhist practice QiGong for its mind/body healing benefits.  It provides the structure for all martial arts practices, focusing on muscle isolation and slow fluid movements which assist in agility.  I remember walking through Chinatown seeing the crew of elders gathering for Tai Chi and QiGong classes early in the morning.  From sight we underestimate the level of challenge because we figure that we have more stamina than most of our elder folks but, don't let the look of it fool you.  It is truly a challenge when you first begin and even though you may consider yourself in good shape, it consist of movements that are so graceful and focused that you feel your muscles in a whole new way.  You actually feel the fibers of your strength and feel things opening and being released.  It is energy work in the truest sense of the word.

Qi (meaning life energy) and Gong (meaning practice) is a superior method of balancing the flow of "Qi" through breathing, gentle movements, and thoughtful meditation.  With its links to ancient Chinese and shamanic beliefs and divine, even magical revelation, the spiritual side of QiGong is mysterious to folks in the West. Shamans used this work to connect with the forces of nature and the higher powers of the earth.  The connection enabled them to boost their own healing powers.

Tai Chi (pronounced  Ty-chee) is a popular style of QiGong that focuses on the slow, graceful, dance-like movements that I spoke of earlier.  It invigorates the mind and body to a complete place of activated calm.  There are as many as one thousand different exercises, ranging from simple calisthenic movements, meditations, and breathing exercises, to more advanced techniques where Qi flow and healing are affected from a distance.  Other forms target specific systems and health imbalances.  Its almost like experiencing the benefits of acupuncture without the needles.  Both practices act as the "great harmonizers" for the body.

*QiGong is beneficial in:
-reducing high blood pressure
-eliminating toxins and waste.
-increase in circulation.
-balancing brain chemistry and reduces anxiety.
-blocking the damaging effects of free radicals.
-fighting cancer by boosting immune response.
-Relieving chronic pain.

*If you are a beginner, it may be wise to begin with a still meditation class because it is important to master quieting the mind before any cleansing movements can take place.  Enjoy and Be Well...Bless...

Miso Soup:::Health Benifits Etc.

If one mineral were awarded first prize for its beneficial effects on immune function, it would be zinc. A co factor in a wide variety of enzymatic reactions, zinc is crucial to immune function and wound healing. Miso soup or miso in general contains the one the highest levels of zinc in any enzyme. Believe it or not, you can buy fresh miso soup from most Asian restaurants. I have prepared fresh Miso Soup at home but in my opinion it just seems to taste more "live" from a restaurant.

The origins of miso, like many other foods made from soybeans, can be traced to ancient China. Its predecessor was known as "hisio," a seasoning made from fermenting soybeans, wheat, alcohol, salt and other ingredients. Some accounts hold that it was a luxury food item, only enjoyed by the wealthy aristocrats.

The creation of miso is very complex and is held as a high art in Asia, just as wine making and cheese making are revered in other parts of the world. Its the same aged enzymatic process folks. If you choose to make Miso at home always eat it fresh and NEVER re-heat it. It kills any valuable nutrients. It's a total waste if you do.Because it is fermented with a B12-synthesizing bacteria, miso has been commonly recommended as a B12 source for vegans. Miso is quite high in sodium (1 ounce contains 52% of the recommended daily value for sodium), but a little miso goes a long way towards providing your daily needs for the trace minerals zinc, manganese, and copper. In addition, a single tablespoon of miso contains 2 grams of protein for just 25 calories. Speaking of protein...why do so many people think protein is so important? I always hear, "how can you be vegan...you won't get your protein...meat has protein etc etc etc etc etc blah blah". Well if you know like I know, your protein needs depend on your activity level. Most people are not as active as they were when they were in high school, let's face it. So your daily need for protein should be low. If your not active daily, your body needs about 0.8 grams of protein per kg of body weight. To figure out your daily needs, follow this simple formula:

* Divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 – this is your weight in kilograms.

Example: if you weigh 150 pounds,

150 / 2.2 = 68.2

* Multiply this number by 0.8 – this is the number of grams of protein you need each day.

Example: 68.2 * 0.8g = 54.6;

You would need about 55 grams of protein per day. 55 GRAMS!!!!

Answer: 55 g = 0.121254 lb.....That's Nothing!!! .01 lbs

STOP EATING BEYOND YOUR MEANS...BE WELL!!!

Shoe Digs: See Grape and Red do Match (a Kartell and Normalusia Collab)

Italian Furniture manufacturer Kartell and the Normaluisa line have come together to create the "Glue Cinderella" ballerina flat gellie.  No offense but, sometimes simpler is better.  I would have just called it the "grape or red "gellie, but, that's just me. I hear that very few are being made and it wasn't clear when or where they would be available. I never get why it is that designers get together to do collaborations and go through the trouble of trying to create a buzz for something, that is only going to be tangible for 20 or more people.  I get the whole" supply and demand" thing and trying to be exclusive but, its also about putting it out into the world as well.  I say all this to say that, its a cute shoe....I look forward to seeing other works from both folks...Bless and Be Well....Peace

Disc Worthy:::::Mulatu Astatke and The Heliocentrics

For the past 40 years, Ethiopian jazz musician Mulatu Astatke has been expressing himself in collaborations with bands and fellow musicians. But it wasn’t until Jim Jarmusch’s touching tragicomedy “Broken Flowers” came out in 2005 that Astatke’s unique jazz style began to be recognized by a wider audience. Shortly thereafter, the collector series “Ethiopiques” devoted its fourth installment to Astatke.

Recently, the African musician teamed up with DJ Shadow-openers The Helicocentrics for a neat album called “Inspiration Information”; a piece reflecting the UK band’s hip-hop, funk, jazz, psychedelic, electronic and avante-garde background as well as Astatke’s funk, Latin, modern jazz and Ethiopian folklore-influenced compositions.

A Repair Kit For Candida

If you speak to most folks about what they eat on a daily basis, you will find that their diets are hugely comprised of refined sugars, starches, and high preservative foods.  True nutritional wellness is based on a diet of balance, so definitely treat yourself but, don't go overboard.  The over consumption of certain foods can create a very acidic and yeast like environment in the body which usually results in Candida.  Candida is a state of inner imbalance, not a disease. The yeast itself is common, normally laying dormant in the gastrointestinal tract.  The imbalance occurs as a result of over usage of antibiotics, birth control pills, refined sugars and carbohydrates, and a lack of rest.  The body loses its intestinal balance and candida yeasts multiply too rapidly, feeding on excess carbs in the digestive tract.  If overlooked the yeast morphs into fungus.  In this form it can infect any part of the body, the most common  are the feet, nails, skin, sinuses, genitals, etc.  You will usually experience itchy skin in all of these areas, uncommon sore throats, and sometimes abnormal headaches.  Through my own experience and conversations with other folks, I put together a little list of do's and don'ts that will assist in making the process of healing a lot easier.

*There is a product on the market called Candi-Gone, it consist of a tincture formula as well as capsules, its about a 2 week supply, you will definitely need enough for 4 weeks.  Take this in conjunction with a 50 billion count of acidophilus.  These should all be available at The Vitamin Shoppe or your local health food store.

Foods to Eliminate:
-Sweeteners of any kind
-Breads and baked goods
-Nutritional yeast
-Fried Foods
-Dairy
-All night shades (potatoes, mushrooms, eggplant, tomatoes, sweet peppers, etc.)
-All nuts(some sources say that almonds, hemp and sesame seeds are cool in moderation but, see how you feel)
-Fruits and juices (green apples are an exception)
-All fermented foods (dried fruits, olives, all vinegars)
-Coffee, black tea, carbonated drinks
*Avoid antibiotics during this time (produce excess yeast in the system)

Healing Foods to Enjoy:
-Raw and Steamed Vegetables (especially red onions, garlic, ginger, cabbage, and broccoli)
-Vegetable juices (try to have at least one green juice or shot of wheatgrass per day)
-Sea vegetables (dulse, arame, hijiki, kelp, kombu, nori, etc.)
-Fresh water fish if you eat seafood (no shrimp, lobster, crab, scallops, etc.)
-Olive, coconut, avocado oils
-brown rice (has a cleansing affect) quinoa, and millet. (If you have a taste for pasta make sure that it doesn't contain semolina or any flours for that matter.) There are several on the market that are made w/ brown rice, quinoa, corn, lentils, and artichokes.  They are available at most health food stores.
-Miso and Tofu
-Herbal teas (especially any white tea infusion and Pau d'arco) Have as much tea and miso soup as you like.
-If you feel yourself needing more protein, lentils and aduki beans are very grounding and easy on the system.
*Really the best way to eat during this time is macrobiotic.  It is a meal consisting of steamed greens, brown rice, beans, sea vegetables, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, tofu or fresh water fish, with tahini dressing and gomasio (which is sesame seeds and sea salt) Very balancing in yin and yang energy, pretty much everything that your body will need in a meal.

*I know that this is all easier said than done because there is sugar and starch in just about everything that we eat.  I know that 4 weeks  sounds like a long time but, its not forever, we have to learn to honor our bodies by giving it the time that it needs to heal.  Its all about making space and changing awareness so the next time won't be as bad.  So please delight in the experience and as always be patient with the process....Bless and Be well

Super Food Series: Ocean Vegetables

Hope all is good with everyone everywhere....We touched upon Sea vegetables a few months back where we focused more on their healing benefits for the skin. This go round, its more about how our bodies benefit from eating them. Most of us get a little in every time we go to a Japanese spot and order sushi. Sushi is usually rolled in Nori which, is one of the most commonly used seaweeds, its in the Kelp family. It is very rich in protein (containing nearly 50%), fiber, vitamin A, calcium, iodine, iron, and phosphorus. Nori has one of the sweeter flavors of the seaweeds and is usually used to roll rice, vegetables, and raw or cooked fish.

The vegetables that come from the ocean are some of the most nutrient-rich foods we have, particularly in iodine, calcium, potassium, and iron, and some being very high in protein as well. Since these plants are constantly bathed in mineral-rich ocean waters, they have a regular supply of nutrients. Most seaweeds contain algin, a fiber molecule that binds minerals. When taken into our body, it can attract various metals in our digestive tract, including heavy metals such as lead and mercury, and take them out of our system. Considering that most of us are familiar with Nori, it would be good to know about the other sea vegetables on the market and begin to incorporate them into your meals..Its also good to know what you are looking at when you pass through the Asian food section even though, a lot of seaweeds are wild crafted in the U.S.

Agar-agar: is a seaweed combination that is used as a gelling agent in cooking and for desserts. It has no taste or smell and is a healthier and vegan alternative to gelatin. Agar is probably a good place to begin for those who are skeptical eating about sea vegetables. It can be used in desserts and sauces without being distinguished.

Arame: This is a dark, thin seaweed thread that can be used in soups, salads, or mixed with rice. it is rich in protein, iodine, calcium, and iron.

Dulse: A red-purple leaf that is rich in iodine, iron, and calcium, dulse is very tasty and can be eaten fresh in salads or cooked in soups. It is helpful to rinse before using to clear away any excess salt of fishy taste. Dulse powder, like kelp is also available as a seasoning which may be more palatable for some.

Hijiki: A very mineral rich, high fiber seaweed. Its dark long strands resemble thick hairs. Hijiki is about 10-20% protein, contains vitamin A, and is richest in calcium, iron, and phosphorus. Soaked in water, it can be cooked in soup or is very good with rice.

Kelp: is usually used in smaller quantities than the other seaweeds, mostly as a seasoning. Its a good source of protein, potassium, B vitamins, calcium, and iodine.

Kombu: A richer, meatier, higher-protein seaweed, kombu is most often used in soups, it adds minerals and flavor to any stock. Kombu contains vitamin A, B, and lots of calcium and iron, it has a higher sodium content than most. One strip can be added to the pot when cooking beans, to reduce some of the gas- inducing qualities of the beans.

Wakame: Another high protein, flat, and thinner seaweed, also used primarily in soups. High in calcium, iron, phosphorus, as well.

*Most seaweeds should be the last ingredient added before serving unless, the packing directs you to simmer before using. Continue to enjoy all of the foods that are naturally occurring around us...Be Good and Well..Bless

Good Food Stuff: Food for Life Brown Rice Tortillas

I think people get it twisted. Just because you eat with a certain level of awareness does not mean that you have to compromise the flavor or the taste. I am terribly allergic to wheat products like a lot of folks, and there aren't too many products on the market that are wheat and gluten-free that don't borderline cardboard. There is a company called "Food for Life" that specialize in Whole grain sprouted breads and also have a line of really good wheat and gluten free products. I want to big up my sis Wubnesh out in Kauai for turning me on to their Brown rice tortillas, their pretty great, we were hooked for a little while. If you are allergic to wheat, you don't have to give up having a wrap or a burrito. These are cool for children too, because I find that a lot of our little folks can't tolerate wheat either and seem to like their food rolled up in things that don't require utensils all the time. They can be found in most health food stores in the freezer section where most of the sprouted breads are carried. If your local health food store doesn't have it, ask them to order it or just get it directly from www.foodforlife.com...Enjoy and Be well...

Chakra Healing: A Basic Intro

The word Chakra comes from the Sanskrit, meaning "wheel" or "disk". These moderators of subtle energy are traditionally depicted as lotus flowers, each resonating at different frequencies, corresponding to the colors of the rainbow. Although the human energy system is said to have many chakras, the traditional Hindu system names seven major ones. The chakra system has developed into a rich and valuable explanation of the holistic nature of humankind. It outlines how, in order to maintain a healthy, balanced life, we must attend, not just to certain physical dysfunctions that may occur but, to our emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs as well. Each of the seven chakras deals with different parts of this bigger picture and directs us to those areas where we might be out of balance.

Muladhara or the 1st Chakra is the Root represented in the body by the adrenal glands. (bones and skeletal structure) These glands produce adrenaline, the hormone essential for our primitive "fight or flight"response. Its color is red and its focus is on survival and physical needs. Imbalance in this chakra can result in mental lethargy, and a lack of inner stillness "spaciness". Good scents for this chakra are: Cedarwood, Myrrh, and Patchouli. Crystals: Hematite, Tiger's eye, and Bloodstone.
Svadhisthana or the 2nd Chakra is represented in the body by the lower abdomen, between the navel and genitals. (bladder, prostate, womb) Our relationship with our own sexuality and issues of emotional balance rule this chakra. Its color is orange and imbalance in this chakra results in an imbalanced sex drive, emotional instability, and feelings of isolation. Good scents for this chakra are: Jasmine, rose, and sandalwood. Crystals: Citrine, Carnelian, and Golden Topaz.
Manipura or the 3rd Chakra is represented in the body by the Solar Plexus/Pancreas (digestive system and muscles). This chakra rules our personal power and self will. Its color is yellow and imbalance in this chakra can result in oversensitivity to criticism, neeed to be in control, and low self-esteem. Good scents for this chakra are: Vetivert, Ylang ylang, and Bergamont. Crystals: Adventurine quartz, Sunstone, and Yellow topaz.
Anahata or the 4th Chakra is represented in the body by the Thymus. (heart, chest, lungs, and circulation) This chakra rules our love and relationships. Its color is green and imbalance in this chakra can result in fears of betrayal, co-dependency, and melancholy. Good scents for this chakra are: Rose, Bergamont, and Melissa. Crystals: Watermelon tourmaline, Rose quartz, and Emerald.
Vishuddha or the 5th Chakra is represented in the body by the Thyroid (mouth, throat, ears). This chakra rules our communication and self expression. Its color is blue and imbalance in this chakra can result in perfectionism, inability to express emotions, and blocked creativity. Good scents for this chakra are: Chamomile and Myrrh. Crystals: Lapis lazuli, Turquoise, and Aquamarine.
Ajna or the 6th Chakra is represented in the body by the Pituitary gland (eyes and base of skull). This chakra rules Intuition and wisdom. Its color is Indigo and imbalance in this chakra can result in learning difficulties, hallucinations, and nightmares. Good scents for this chakra are: Hyacinth, Violet, and Rose geranium. Crystals: Amethyst, Flourite, and Azurite.
Sahasrara or the 7th Chakra is represented in the body by the Pineal gland (upper skull, cerebral cortex, and skin). This chakra rules Spirituality. Its color is Violet and imbalances in this chakra can result in depression, obsessive thinking, and confusion. Good scents for this chakra are: Lavender, Frankincense, and Rosewood. Crystals: Amethyst, Clear quartz, Diamond.

This may all seem like a lot to swallow but, just keep in mind that scents, colors, numbers, and what's going on in the sky, play a huge role in how we think, move, feel, and see. Its all divine mathematics. Be patient with all of your processes of self-discovery...Bless..Peace..Be Well...

Ride More>>>Talk Less

Lots of people ride bikes for lots of different reasons. Here are the top five reasons why you should be out there too.
1. For Your Body

Riding a bike offers many health benefits. Here are just a few:

* increased cardiovascular fitness
* increased strength
* increased balance and flexibility
* increased endurance and stamina
* increased calories burned

It can be done by people of all ages, from childhood up even through the adult years when achy joints don't allow for more stressful exercise like jogging.
2. For Your State of Mind

Riding a bike is a proven stress releaser. Regardless of if you are riding purely for pleasure or for a specific purpose, you will arrive at your destination feeling relaxed, energized and happier about the world and yourself.

Plus, being out on your bike is just flat-out fun. The more time you spend on two wheels, the harder it is to take yourself too seriously.
3. For Your Community

Being out on your bike is good for the people around you as well. You are able to go the places you want to go and yet put one less car on the road.

You don’t bring with you the noise that a car generates and are actually able to interaction with people as you move. From my bike I can wave to a neighbor, say hi to a kid, smell someone’s dinner cooking and be a warm and friendly human presence on the streets.

Also, not insignificant: operating a bicycling does not harm the environment. There is no polluting exhaust released, no oil or gas consumed. And the energy and materials used to manufacture one automobile could be used to created a hundred bikes.

4. For Convenience

There is an undeniable convenience factor you’ll discover when riding a bike. Front row parking spaces are guaranteed no matter where you go. Traffic jams are also irrelevant.

Though cars will certainly make better time on long trips, you’ll find for many short trips or through heavy traffic, you can travel just as fast or faster on your bike.

Have you ever been to a massive festival or concert in a park somewhere, the type of event that draws so many people that just getting there is a problem? Going in on a bike is a perfect solution. Zip in, zip out. You don’t have to get there hours early to get a parking spot or else face parking miles away from the event. And you won’t have to wait hours in traffic to get out once it’s over.
5. For Your Pocketbook

It costs between 20 and 30 cents per mile to operate a car, depending on the vehicle. This is based on expenses like gas, oil, maintenance, etc., that go up when you drive more. This figure doesn’t include the hidden costs of vehicle ownership like depreciation, taxes, and insurance. These factors make the actual per mile cost to operate a car much higher.

When you start multiplying cost per mile to operate a car by the distance you ride, you can easily calculate how much money you save by riding a bike.

For example: imagine someones daily roundtrip commute is 16 miles. If I do that just twice a week, I will save over $400 in operating costs alone in the course of a year. (16 miles x 2 trips per week x 52 weeks x .25 cents per mile.)

And if you would otherwise have to pay for parking, tolls, and the like, don’t forget to factor that in too. It can add up quickly.
Ride For You

When you ride your bike, you are doing a lot of good things, many of which are for the benefit of others. But ultimately, the one who benefits the most is you, through better health, peace of mind, increased confidence and self-reliance, heck, even through a fatter bank account.

So for all these reasons, get out there on your bike today. Even if you don’t save the world in the process, you’ll still have fun trying!

TUMERIC HERB>>>

Dr. Mercola Had a great video on his site today about Tumeric. Take a look.

The recipe blends>>Now Be framed>>>

Run to it...Not from it...Lay in the middle of a highway...and Live!!! Our horizon is accessorizing we bred more need
Best believe this be the equation of greed
I need a new car and thus new breaks
Another tune-up with lube
Whatever's put together shall be unscrewed
In times of famine we made more food
Food made more people
It's all explained within the cycle of evil
Would I trade it all?
Cruisin down the highway on a bright summer day
Gazing out a plane to see the earth from miles away
Watchin the patriots win the super bowl
Grabbin that fumble from Ricky Prole
Or my stereo provided me with rhythm and soul
I don't know, all I know is I feel guilt for
Every single thing I've ever bought and sold
I shoulda been at more demonstrations
Planted bombs in corporations
Murdered CEO's and cancelled TV shows
Burned billboards and torn posters
I coulda read more
Finally I get to meet this GOD they left us dead for
And its ill, its power takes the form of a bill
To which people killed by manipulated free will
Conscience be the crucifix a chopping block for poppycock
And I can feel our spirits drop upon these streets I oddly walk
Enough talk! Here's my last chance to cherish a thought
My flesh is fully melted and my stomach's in a knot
Now we're all ground by the grind
Out of luck and out of line, out of signs
And now we're out of time...

Super Food Series: Hemp Seeds and Oil

Hemp contains a perfect balance of omega and gamma fatty acids which, protect our bodies from degenerative diseases and boost our brain power. It also help us to maintain energy, insulate our body, and protect tissue and organs. Hemp has been used for thousands of years as a valuable resource of edible seeds and oil, as a medicine and as fiber for clothes and rope. Its popularity is rising again as people learn about its rich nutritional properties. Research shows that hemp oil has anti-inflammatory properties, so its useful as a topical first aid for wounds and burns. It stimulates the growth and health of skin, hair, and nails. It is not the best oil to cook with, it should be consumed in its raw state. Heating it above 120 degrees will damage a lot of its healing properties. Hemp oil has a distinct nutty flavor that would be a perfect addition to salads, veggies, grains, blended into smoothies, etc. Keep it refrigerated and make sure that it is unrefined and unfumigated. For those who are wondering, hemp products will not alter your state of consciousness, it only contains trace amounts of THC. Canada passed an Industrial Hemp Act in 1998 so that it could be used for its nutritional benefits. So, eat as much as you want. LOL...Feel good and Be Well

What's up with the sizes, Really?

Now, I guess you would consider me a reformed sneaker head, not by choice though. Rewind about 10 years ago, it was a completely different story, I truly had a good problem going. I had stores on speed dial, would wait on lines, had friends working at spots out of town, traveled for kicks, the whole bit. I am not complaining because the scene from about 92-99, was the greatest for sneakers and so well worth it. I guess its hard coming from that and seeing what's available for women now. The market makes it kind of easy for girl's like me to fall back on the whole kick situation and get excited about IKEA. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the shop owners, its really the manufacturers. As of late, every pair of kicks that I usually like, seem to never be available in a boy's size 5, its a joke at this point. I guess it would be different if I just started buying sneakers but, a lot of the stuff that's available now, that was made in my size before, now start at size 9. Folks will try to convince you that they were never available in small sizes but, you know I know better, right? All I can do is run back to that space in time when the Adidas Forrest Hills and Rod Halliet's were plentiful in boy's size 5 and 24.5 cm (if u happened to be near Japan) ...They were some of the greatest. Oh...the memories...Bless and Be Well....

Good Product: Dr. Singha's Mustard Bath

You just always want to have this in your medicine cabinet, I even suggest having a backup batch. A really good friend of mine turned me on to Dr. Singha's products a few years ago, the Mustard Bath in particular. It has that old school home remedy feel to it, like a grandmother's hand. It is the best tonic for aches, pains, cold, fever, or if you just want to get the monkey off of your back. Its safe for the whole family and just full of good ingredients most of which, we probably have in our cupboards. I am somewhat of a product junkie and you almost immediately feel the restorative and therapeutic effects when using this in your bath. Mustard seed powder is known for its stimulating, cleansing, and rejuvenating qualities. The natural warmth of mustard gently opens pores assisting, in the elimination of impurities. It contains: organic mustard seed powder, essential oils of: rosemary, thyme, eucalyptus, and wintergreen. Most Health Food stores and Apothecaries should carry it but, just in case check www.drsingha.com Feel Good and Be well...

Avocado>>>

Perhaps 10,000 years from now there will be endless speculations about what kind of a large animal swallowed whole avocados and excreted pits. Thats right, not only animals evolved, so did fruits vegetables and complex minerals. Stop being selfish mammals! Just kidding. Most foods consumed today were mildly or extremely toxic and co-evolved with mammals. With this fact, I think its more important to honor these fruits and veggies even more. There is no point in eating meat lets face it! You are not a product of the cycle when u consume the meat of TODAY! Ok, enough of my rants. Here are a few facts about avocado to keep you in line:::::

Avocado Nutrition Structure/Function Statements

1. Avocados contain 81 micrograms of the carotenoid lutein, which some studies suggest may help maintain healthy eyes.
2. Avocados are included in Fruits & Veggies-More Matters™ consumer educational program to promote increased consumption of fruits and vegetables for good health.
3. Avocados contribute nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and beneficial plant compounds that can contribute to the nutrient quality of your diet.
4. Avocados, due to their mono and polyunsaturated fat content, are a healthy substitution for foods rich in saturated fat.
5. One-fifth of a medium avocado (1 oz) has 50 calories and contributes nearly 20 vitamins and minerals making it a good nutrient choice.
6. Avocados contain 76 milligrams beta-sitosterol in a 3-oz serving of avocado. Beta-sitosterol is a natural plant sterol which may help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Avocados and Babies

The avocado's smooth, creamy consistency makes it one of the first fresh fruits a baby can enjoy. Sodium- and cholesterol- free, avocados contain valuable nutrients including 8% of the recommended Daily Value (DV) for folate; 4% DV for fiber and potassium, 4% DV for vitamin E; and 2% DV for iron. A serving of avocado also contains 81 micrograms of the carotenoid lutein and 19 micrograms of beta-carotene. Per serving, avocados have 3.5 grams of unsaturated fats, which are known to be important for normal growth and development of the central nervous system and brain.
Avocados Nutrient Profile:

* One-fifth of a medium avocado, or about one ounce, has 50 calories and contributes nearly 20 beneficial nutrients to the diet.
* Avocados contribute nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are thought to help prevent many chronic diseases.
* Avocados contribute nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, including 4% of the recommended Daily Value (DV) for vitamin E, 4% vitamin C, 8% folate, 4% fiber, 2% iron, 4% potassium, with 81 micrograms of lutein and 19 micrograms of beta-carotene.
* Avocados act as a "nutrient booster" by enabling the body to absorb more fat-soluble nutrients, such as alpha- and beta-carotene as well as lutein, in foods that are eaten with the fruit.

Overall, avocados just taste good with everything...Give thanks to the empress that turned me on to them!

Audiowood: The Greenest Turntables in the World

I get it for aesthetic purposes. I love to see conventional things refreshed through other mediums (blah.. blah.. blah). Call me old-fashioned but, I love TECHNICS.....They are at least a conversation on where the green revolution has gotten us, a bit extra but, whose counting. (Where are we at with our carbon emissions again, because that's real. ) Oh, and since we are on the subject, can they make a more attractive car than the Prius? And why hasn't there been a commercial paying homage to the old school Benz 280, they run on bio-diesel just fine, and get no love in the streets, and they're pretty classy..If the turntables were solar-powered, now that would be some black science magic for real.. In the meantime take a trip to Northern Cali and visit the Redwoods. (Those are the real tree giants. Unrefined and Unplugged) LOL...Enjoy...Bless

Shoe Digs: Melissa Campana

Not a big fan of the Van's slip-on and no offense to those who just keep buying them over and over again. If you like it, then I love it, you know. These came out a couple of season's back and I first saw them at this spot in NYC called Opening Ceremony, they are a one stop shop for up and coming designers, they also carry their own line. They are no longer available but, you may luck out and find them somewhere really random. If you are ever in the Soho area, go check them out. They are on Howard street, right off of Broadway. The designer is Melissa Campana and they have chosen plastic as their medium, kind of an ill homage to the gelly sandal that most of us had when we were little girls. They have a host of footwear and bags to choose from. This style is reminiscent of the Van's slip-on in silhouette but, that's about it, these were good ones. What I wouldn't give to run into these somewhere on my travels in the same color. (We give words power, so u never know?) Bless...
